Anna Felicja was born in Gdańsk, Poland on 26 August, 1954 in the family of Prof. Joanna Muszkowska-Penson and Prof. Jakub Penson, both of them specialists in internal medicine and nephrology, with distinguished merits for clinical medicine, the Medical University of Gdańsk, and the city of Gdańsk.

In one of the interviews she recalled her interest in research, especially hypertension research, starting as early as year 3 of her medical studies at MUG. Anna Dominiczak graduated from the Medical University of Gdańsk in 1978, receiving the Medical Diploma with Honors.

Following her emigration to Scotland in 1983, Dr. Anna Dominiczak pursued a dynamic and successful career in both clinical medicine and medical research, with particular focus on cardiovascular diseases.

From 2012, Professor Anna Dominiczak has been Editor-in-Chief for Hypertension, one of the highest-ranked, global medical journals.

In addition to her extensive publishing activity, with almost 400 papers in top peer-reviewed journals, Professor Anna Dominiczak excelled in large scale research funding for programmes and infrastructure alike, and has also led a collaboration of four universities, four academic
NHS Health Boards across Scotland and two major industrial partners to develop a public/private partnership in Precision Medicine.
Professor Anna Dominiczak’s major research interests are in hypertension, cardiovascular genomics and precision medicine.

In 2016, in recognition of her contribution to medicine and science, Professor Anna Dominiczak, Regius Professor of Medicine,
Vice-Principal and Head of the College of Medical, Veterinary and Life Sciences, University of Glasgow, was made Dame Commander
of the Order of the British Empire, at a ceremony at Buckingham Palace on November 25.

Professor Dame Anna Dominiczak is married to Prof. Marek Dominiczak, also a medical professional, an expert in the field of medical biochemistry,
cell biology, cancer research and laboratory medicine.
